  I got my 1st pony when my son was 2! "Jasmine"- a black American Shetland. She was 48" tall and she could be a brat at times, but was usually a sweetheart. When son got tall enough that he could just swing his leg over her back, he would put hay on the ground for her and then sit on her back and read for hours. He eventually decided he was too big for her and she deserved another little kid to love her. We sold her 3 years ago to a little guy who was 3 and just loved her. My son is now almost 14 and is almost 5' 10".

  My brother and his wife got me my first "horse," a Shetland pony when I was a kid. He sure wasn't a pleasant little guy, but he was mine. He was horribly foundered, but did live a long life. He died when I was at the county fair showing our rabbits, so I didn't have to deal with that part at least.
